Nine Pearls-Blogging for Fun and Cash Prizes

Blog

Bad Blogger

Do you know how hard it is to really get worked up about blogging stuff when you are CHOCK FULL OF BABY?!

Good grief, y’all. The thing has taken to jamming one fist into my left hip bone, and one foot into my right rib cage, then doing the shimmy.

It feels even weirder than it sounds.

I signed up for the hospital “birthing classes” (now there’s a joke), and I’ve gone to a few Le Leche League meetings, and I’ve witnessed my first bout of playgroup power trip drama, and it’s all so damned bizarre and new and just…

It’s a lot.

And, I have to re-take my glucose test. Damn it. It sucked enough the first time, though, I’m not surprised. I mean, basically, I had to drink orange flavored glucose soda for breakfast, then wait a damned hour. I’m one of those people that gets sick after eating relatively small amounts of candy. I suck at sugar. So, by the time they took my blood, I was light headed, shaky, clammy, and barfy. They didn’t really need to steal my blood, as I was obviously not in good shape.

And, I can’t sleep. Which… well.. I’m posting this at 2:30 a.m. And, when I do pass out, I’ll wake up two hours later. Then every two hours after that. You’d think that this is counter evolutionary, or something. Given the prospect of impending sleep deprivation, the body should be practically hibernating. Instead, I guess I get early endurance training.

And, supplements, people. OMG. The things I consume. In the morning I drink my Pregnant Lady tea full of Pregnant Lady Herbs like nettle and red raspberry leaf. And, I take the prenatal vitamins and a calcium supplement. And, then before bed, I take liquid calcium and magnesium, which tastes sort of like extra-thick, extra sour Maalox, to prevent the mind boggling leg cramps that nearly crippled me for two days last week.

Fun.

Jeoff has asked several times, “Are you tired of being pregnant, yet?”

I dunno where he gets that idea.

  1. and this is why, as much as i want a baby, i can’t imagine myself ever being pregnant. i know people tell me all the pains and troubles are worth it because of the final result, but, yeah, sounds rough.

i had to take the glucose test a few months back and it was all kinds of disgusting. the first few sips i thought, “oh, this isn’t so bad.” (a friend had recently done it because she was pregnant and had told me it was horrible.) by the fourth or fifth sip, i was trying very hard to not gag and to keep chugging the stuff in the time specified. something good came out of it though, put me off candy for a good while. not that i eat all that much of it, but still, just looking at a snickers bar now makes me feel a little queasy.

  2. I’m lucky, I guess. Whatever type of glucola they got wasn’t flat—it was pretty much just like Orange Sunkist.

    And, I didn’t mention the worst part…

  3. oh,eew. will I have to do that?

  4. Yup. They test for gestational diabetes. It’s a good thing, though ‘cause GD can cause HUGE BABIES!!! And, if a little diet shift can prevent the Ginormous Baby of Doom, then I’m all for it. Schedule an early appointment that day, though, so you can chug the gulcose in the morning, without fasting through half the day.

  5. Yes…being pregnant sucked. I remember the insomnia. And yes, it is endurance training.

I remember once watching the Simpsons and getting a craving for Homer’s pink donut. And then I threw up.

  7. where do you get pregnant lady tea? is it good or just good-for-you?

the prenatal vitamins don’t have a good track record of staying down. any thoughts?

  8. I’ve always believed that happy pregnant women are just really good actresses!

Hang in there, Veronica. You’re about to create something marvelous!

  9. The tea I get is good. It’s minty tasting. But… I like herbal teas.

I take SuperNutrition One a Day prenatals. I like them a lot. They’re “foodbased” so, it’s not quite like taking a lump of metals the way that the Stuart and Stuart clones are. But, they are HUGE and I gag trying to swallow the suckers. Once they’re down, they’re down, though. And, they're not so high in iron that they cause, um, other problem, ahem. But… they lack calcium, hence the extra calcium I take. I hear good things about Rainbow brand prenatals, too. They’re expensive as all hell, though.

I also take fish liver oil when my skin gets too dry, which was a real issue at the beginning of my second trimester. You gotta make sure you get the kind that are supposed to be cleaned of mercury, though.

  10. Ravenmn—Yeah… I’m still waiting for the supposed “glow.”

    Veronica    Aug 3, 02:03 PM    #
  11. They glow is that sweaty sheen you get from throwing up all the time. And acne.

    Vanessa    Aug 3, 06:21 PM    #
  12. Then, I think my glow has been usurped by the aforementioned flaking, dry skin.

    Veronica    Aug 3, 06:25 PM    #
  13. AntiP, get some Alvita Red raspberry tea, to increase uterine tone. I also think it tastes great!

Supernutrition is a great brand, as is New Chapter prenatals. Try a liquid vitamin if you can’t do the capsules or softgels.

  14. CHOCK FULL OF BABY!!

    really it should be

    Chock Full O’Baby™

yes, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t put the latest blog fappery over all those physical symptoms plus impending birth of small new person.

hang in there. you’re more than two thirds through, right? so you’ve done most of it.

  15. Yeah, this is the home stretch…

    Veronica    Aug 4, 04:54 PM    #
  16. omg the glucose tests! [HURL] Blech. Some trips down memory lane just ain’t worth taking. Good thoughts to you and your belly.

  17. That glucose test sounds absolutely vile. It must be even worse for someone with a distaste for sweet things. Hang in there!

About your pregnant lady tea…it sounds a lot like the tea that I take all the time, which since I started taking it has made PMS a thing of the past. Wierd, huh? It was my grandmother who pushed me towards red raspberry and nettles, and she was right, both seem to be good for pretty much any female-specific issues.

For those looking for good-tasting teas that are commercially avaliable I recommend Traditional Medicinals, BTW.

  18. One of my coworkers had a baby recently. Before the little critter was born, her answer to “How are you?” was “I’m still pregnant!”

It was not a good thing.

    Moira    Aug 5, 01:49 PM    #
  19. I hear you. It gets better! I had an easy pregnancy health-wise but the hardest part was constant paranoia about whether the baby was still alive, as I’d had 2 miscarriages. Eveyone told me the worrying would not stop once she came out. Only, it did! Well, I still have bouts of worry, but not about whether she’s breathing.

I know that’s not relevant here, but the bottom line is, there is an end in sight, and a cute little bundle at the end of it.
