Adventures in Moving
We are moved!
Luckily, we moved before this awful heat wave started. I was already turning scary purple on Monday. I can’t imagine if we’d tried it on Thursday when it was 111 out.
This is the third time I’ve moved in July.
Now, every move has those misplaced items. This time around it was the toothpaste. I forgot which box I tossed it in. Somehow I managed to keep track of my vitamins, and keys, and three cats, and my ass, but I guess dental hygiene was at the bottom of the list.
Now, we get to slowly unpack. It turns out that we have boxes of just “stuff.” Random crap. It drives me insane. I ask, “Why do we have this? Can’t we throw this away? Why do we own so much trash?” I guess I went a little overboard with the de-trashing, as Jeoff at one point said I was on a “rampage.”
But, I really wasn’t even getting started.
We haven’t met the neighbors, yet, but it looks like we live in a dog neighborhood. The previous owners warned us about a cat-eating Rottweiler that roams around up the hill, and there’s this ridiculous little dog with jingling tags that patrols the block.
And, we’ve got three full grown pear trees on this lot. THREE! What the hell are we going to do with three trees worth of pears? The yard is going to reek of rotten fruit for half the fall.
On the other hand, it’s still better than living in a giant convection oven, like the last place.

Yeah, I’m actually sort of afraid of dogs, myself. The little stupid dog stays at the property line, so far, though.

Pear bread’s good. We had 3 pear trees once. Make like applesauce bread, only pears. tasty. Pear butter, pear sauce, anything you might use apples for. Pear wood is also fabulous for grilling with. It’s hard and lasts a long time, and the smoke is sweet. Baked pears in red wine and cinnamon.. Slice and dry them for that “Home Grown Survivalist” feeling.

I don’t think I like pears quite that much.
